Helpful Information
Consumers should ask about:
Speed (approximately how long with the entire job take), quality of
work, ask for and call references, check license and bonding, pricing of
course.
Pricing:
usually is a basic sq foot price plus extras. Extras might include
mantels, crown molding, chair rails, shadow boxing, stair systems like
open handrails and pickets, etc. Hourly rates might apply if the
homeowner is living in the home, due to extra time to move furniture and
rearrange scheduling due to events and family considerations.
Replacing doors: be aware that there
are doors that are half the cost which are just as functional and
attractive. For example, for interior doors, hollow core are just as
attractive as solid core for 50-75% less cost. As a homeowner, you will
want to decide what you prefer. The contractor should give
you information to help you plan your project to your budget.
Know what you want before talking to contractors. Attend home shows, go
to showrooms and talk to sales people. Talk to friends and associates
about projects and products.
